Moving home - Scottish Power
Options
We are moving home next week and I'm now looking into the business of sorting out the G&E accounts. We are with Scottish Power in the current property, I'm not sure who the supplier is at the moment in the new property.
I would just like give my final readings and close my account with Scottish Power in this property, and then open an account with whoever the current supplier is in the new place. This seems to be the easiest way to go about it, and it will allow me to choose the best supplier for the new place when I am ready.
I have looked at the Scottish Power website to find out about informing them of the move. All their information and their "oh so helpful" online moving service just seems geared up to get you to stay with them and have them supplying your new place too. I don't want this, I want to leave Scottish Power, but all their information doesn't even seem to acknowledge this as a possibility.
So what's the best way to close the account with them? I would just phone them but the last time I phoned SP I was waiting about 45 mins and never got through.

I would say phone them, use www.saynoto0870.com if they don't have a cheap number and do it at an offpeak time if you're able, say 11am or 3pm0

You could always write to them.
Or email them (but that's not as secure).
If you have an online account, you may even be able to do it that way.
If not, it looks like you might be able to tell them via their website anyway

Hi jd87
If you want to set up an account with the current supplier of your new address then this is fine (also a good idea as it is better to get this new account set up accurately first before changing supplier). We ask for your new address as this will be added to your current account and any correspondence is then sent to your new address, i.e. final gas/electricity statements etc). If you do not provide this information, then we continue to send letters to the address you have moved out of. For security reasons, I would be happier for letters to be sent directly to me, rather than risk them falling into the wrong hands.
If you provide us with the meter reading on the day you moved out or as close to this as possible then we will close down your account and send out the final statements. If you call us then we can confirm to you, over the phone, your final balance and you can pay it there are then. Alternatively you can send us an email (customer.services@scottishpower.co.uk) with your final meter readings and forwarding address, or follow the link provided by Premier.
Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions.
Kind Regards
