Joint bank account

My boyfriend is about to move in with me and we've decided to have a joint account for all the bills, food, joint expenditure etc. So we'll both keep our own current accounts which our salaries get paid into and then transfer monthly an agreed amount to the joint account. Most new accounts only offer cashback etc offers when paying in your salary or a certain amount each month. Can anyone suggest a good bank account where only about £500 a month will be paid into it??

Slightly depends what you want from the bank / account to be honest. If having a branch nearby is important I'd just take a walk up and down your local High St at lunchtime to get a sense of which have long irritating queues, and which seem to be moving along well. I'd then chat with the people in the branch to see if they seem to actually have any grasp of 'customer service'.
If you're less interested in branches and want good telephone / online banking, First Direct seem to be king of this space.
As for the products, I think they are generally much of a muchness. One thing you might want to consider is that the package accounts (those that have a monthly fee for a range of benefits) tend not to charge any more for joint accounts, while offering double the benefits (my RBS account does), so this is clearly slightly better value for money.
Looking around the threads on this forum, I would steer clear of Santander, as their customer service seems to be pitiful.

tbh if you are only paying in about 500 a month to come straight out again to cover bills i wouldnt expect any return0
