A joint cheque HAS to be paid into a joint account. The cheque is made payable to two parties therefore the account has to be in 2 parties.

    This thread is from 2010!

From personal experience I have cashed a cheque made out to 4 people into my personal account. The bank said they'd accept it as long as I had the other people named on the cheque sign the back (I guess as a way to show that they had seen the cheque and I wasn't just running off with their money)

I can think of a few reasons why I wouldn't necessarily want a joint account with someone from credit ratings to personal preference. Just because joint accounts work for some doesn't mean they work for all.
