So TopUpTV on a freeview box, is this via monthly subscription only? or can I credit the card and use when/as I please?

We had to take our 3rd/4th freeview box (original cost about £50 this summer) back the other week. The woman in the shop wasn't phased by it at all and just said go pick another and we'll sort out any difference with you. Anyway we decided we would go for one with a PVR when we went back to her and said our freeview boxes keep giving up she said that whenever they bring out new channels etc. and the boxes get an upgrade sent to them they get a wave of them coming back in as they seem to get fried by this. She said it doesn't seem to make a difference with the type or cost of freeview box you have they all seem to do it although what she did say is that so far they have never had a PVR returned so we now live in the hope that the new one we bought will last until at least next year.
