Hi,
Does anyone know how to change the display settings on windows 98 computer.
Yesterday i booted it up in safe mode and cant seem to change my display color settings?
Everytime i switch my computer on, the screen size is 640 x 480 pixels on 16 bit colour. When i change it to 256 colorsor 800 x 600 pixels it defaults back to 640 x 480 which makes the screen all fuzzy and large.
ANYONE KNOW HOW TO GET IT BACK TO NORMAL DISPLAY SETTINGS
MANY THANKS
PAUL

Are you still using the machine in safe mode ? Safe mode just uses the default graphics setting, so you may not be able to change it.
If you are back in normal mode and still have the fault you need to load the graphics drivers ... will be on the install disc for your motherboard/graphics card or downloadable from the manufacturers website0 -

HOW DO I CHECK IF IT REBOOTS IN SAFE OR NORMAL MODE?

Check in Device Manager that it has the display adapter installed correctly. If it says "Standard VGA", you need to install the drivers.0

If you are saying that you can't get away from 640x480 while in normal mode, then the next question has to be "What do the display properties say the graphics card & monitor is?"
To check the display properties, right click on the desktop, select Properties from the context menu, then click on the Settings tab.
Just above the slider bar for desktop resolution, you should see the name of your graphics adaptor along with the monitor it is connected to - what is written there?Remember kids, it's the volts that jolt and the mills that kill.0 -
If it's constantly booting to Safe Mode...your screen will look big...it's supposed to..
If you're trying to boot normally yet it still goes to safe mode...check your boot ini
Start > Run > MSCONFIG > Enter > Boot INI
Check to see if the Boot ini is set to normal mode or safe mode...**do not touch any other setting**
If it's set to SAFE MODE click NORMAL MODE then Apply then Close (OK) restart and see if that helps...
(That's if it's there on 98...Been a while since I cast my eyes over that OS)0 -

Hi
It says - C5991DC Intel 810 chipset graphics driver pv2.1
"you're trying to boot normally yet it still goes to safe mode...check your boot ini
Start > Run > MSCONFIG > Enter > Boot INI
Check to see if the Boot ini is set to normal mode or safe mode...**do not touch any other setting**"
After pressing enter, the following headings appear.
general
config.sys
autoexe.bat
system.ini
win.ini
start up
Cant see the heading BOOT.INI that you mentioned.
My computer starts up in normal mode , but the graphics settings always default to 16 COLORS - 640X480 PIXELS which makes the visual screen/graphics all fuzzy.
The options i have on the settings are 16 colors, 256 colors or high colore(16 bit).
I am sure my settings were on 256 colors before.
This all started last week when my computer didnt shut down properly and because i was in a rush, i turned it off at the mains which resulted the computer booting up in safe mode....
Any more help please
thanks guys0
