seems that fuel comparison sites are not true

Or someone somewhere is telling untruths!

I have been looking at lots of threads and decided to do something about my fuel. I looked at all the comparison sited there are and entered my fuel useage in KW per annum. All came up with atlantic(this was about 2-3 weeks ago) so decided to change. When I used the link from this site I went through all the input details again and was told that although not the cheapest the best one for me was a britisg gas green click energy online so i decided to switch. I was given an amount per kw for gas and elec and after inputting loads of details into exel at work worked out that it should be £40 cheaper with BG.

the process started and my energy contract came today with much higher monthly direct debits than my N power bill had just increased to. I called BG and was switched about once but fairly quickly. the man couldnt help due to a problem so he called me back after 10 mins to go through it. After giving him my annual useage etc he just couldnt seem to give me a tarriff per KW. he asaid that BG had just changed the billing system and somehow the direct debit is now taken off as a discount. he spent ages but when i asked him exactly what the tarrif was he coulnt tell me an exact figure as he said that they work it on how much you use per day so there is a different tier pricing per day and not per quarter as is on all the sites. I have used an average of 29000 kw of gas which is what I used last year and what I based all my qutes on but when I asked him if it was the green click online prices he was quoting he couldnt say. He just kept talking about a new system based on how much you use per day. I have no way to compare this to my useage although he did say that Npower have today told them they will be increasing from October. I am sorry its so long but I was so mad that it took me so long to work out my useage, input all the details onto the comparison sites and be told an amount and then be told by that company they have no idea what figures they are quoting.

In the end I have cancelled my new switch with BG to see if this intended price rise takes place and then look again.

Oh! and this man said that if I join BG I can have something like price fall (apparently its advertised on TV and rates are fixed until 2007) but could not give me any details. He also said if I disgreed with the monthly dd to pay whatever price I wanted and settle up at the end of the year but I thought that the idea of dd was to pay whatever you think is nearest to avoid having to pay an amount at the end.

exasperated or what?

Sounds awful, it may well not be the best for you but I've just switched to Ebico, one rate, no standing charges etc.
The customer service people at Southern Energy (who Ebico use) couldn't be more helpful when I had cause to ring them.
BTW 29000kw of gas with Equigas would cost you £739.50, or £61.63 a month.
That gum you like is coming back in style.
  • might look at them as it seems that BG are not very upfront as to their tarrif
  • This is what they did to me

They have no idea which taffif you're signing up to and don't care
  • It does seem to be a similar type story. The man was very nice but really just didnt seem to know whats what. I will leave it for a while to see if Npower have increased in October then do another comparison I think.

Glad I moved to EBICO, with their one tariff, two if you count E7.
After Powergen, the bills are a pleasure to read.
And good reports about the parent company Southern Energy, too.
