rejected meter readings
How annoying is this.
I live in a small flat at the momen with my partner and we don't use much electricity at all. £10-£15 per month. I take a meter reading every fortnight, however they are continuosly rejecting my readings and as such I can't get my direct debit doubt down to a reasonable level. Currently £70 per month.
The good news is they pay 3% on a positive balance so its like a second monthly saving account :money:

You will have to talk to (or write to) a person rather than an automated script.
You should also carefully double-check your meter readings with any bills or online readings you do have access to to make sure there isn't a more serious confusion.0 -
Why not come off the direct debit scheme then until you have used up all your credit balance, then do a few months of meter readings and go back on on a hopefully lower dd amount?0

Because they could pay 20% or more extra over that period! And they may be committed to their current tariff for a fixed period of time and would have to pay £50 for the privilege (plus the higher tariff costs post bump.) And they will only be able to go back on DD with a more expensive newer direct debit tariff. Need I go on? Bizarre suggestion.
Anyway, once a more accurate estimate is established they will be paying a lower DD (what with the existing overpayment.)0 -

I believe the OP is talking about OVO energy who only operate on a monthly DD basis and have no quarterly billing option.
Also, as Kim said above, why would they want to pay even more for what they are using? (if they could, which they cant)Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -

The reason I said that is because my tariff allows me a prompt payer discount which is in line with the DD discount they offer. It may be that the OPs tariff is the same.
Also does your company have a specific direct debit tariff? Mine just has economy 7 for example and they give you a discount for paying by DD rather than having a specific tariff for everyone who wants to pay by DD0 -
Hi,however they are continuosly rejecting my readings
that makes me think that you are trying to put in a reading which is lower than the reading on your last statement, or, if you are on a two rate meter (E7), you have the readings crossed, and the system wont accept them.
Take a meter reading and email or phone them through, see if that gets things sorted.0 -

Who are you with out of interest?
I to am a low consumer of electric and have had issues in the past and recently where my utility provider clearly doesn't believe my readings. I submit them online and have even been rung up as asked to double check, only to find they estimated on my bill. I have rung them request a refund for the £200+ they now owe me, but they are under the impression i will use this over the winter months. We will see.0 -
I am with OVO. My positive balance before my I gave them my last reading was over £200 pounds. My reading was naturally lower than what they had been billing me fore so I expect to be at around £300 pounds positive balance now. They are now willing to reduce my direct debit to £66, still far higher than it needs to be OR refund some of the positive balance down to £150, but not both. Quite franky I think the balance should be brought down to £50 and direct debit down to £40.
Oh well my OVO hell goes on, waiting on a manager call back, then a director responce so I have a final responce then taking it to the ombudsman.
Would never go with OVO again.0 -
Keep sending in a meter reading every month and sooner or later they'll accept them. I had a few readings ignored but they've now accepted my latest reading. I also have a large positive balance with OVO but that's probably because I added more loft insulation just before switching so they were expecting me to use more energy to heat the house.
I've just renewed on a fixed price for another year.
