Doing it all online

Options
Sold our house through Housenetwork and used an online conveyancer.

Sold within 2 weeks and got what we wanted!

Exchanged yesterday and complete on August 13th.

Doing it online has been easy and everyone involved has been very efficient. We have saved thousands!

I would highly recommend doing it online. You do have to keep involved in the process and 'badger' them a bit but worth it for the huge savings.

I know we have been lucky in many respects but we never thought we would sell so quickly because it's a house with a granny annex so a bit of a 'one off'.

The only real stress has been finding somewhere to rent. Wanted to be in a good position to buy in the future - we're downsizing and will be a cash buyer and chain free (plus hoping for house prices to fall - I know, I know........!)

But............... huge shortage of rental properties and they were snapped up so quickly. We only found somewhere to live the night before we exchanged! Very stressful - thought we would be sleeping in the car!

Read these threads religiously so want to wish everyone selling the best of luck and for those about to put their houses on the market please think about doing it online. Very MSE :j

My solicitor corresponded a lot via email - I think this made it easy and a lot less hassle than waiting for the post.
His firm isn't an online one - just one who appreciates what email can do!

    I so agree.

Did he send the information forms etc online? Obviously some paperwork needs a signature I presume.

I hated filling in all those forms - I'm sure no-one takes any notice. Also we had a HIP and I'm sure we repeated information that was already on there. Did anyone ever read the HIPS - what a waste of money.

We put that we needed 4 weeks after exchange before completion (to find somewhere to rent) and the buyers weren't even told. Madness!

This house selling/buying malarky is the pits!

I printed and scanned them back in and re-emailed. I did have to go in to show a passport.
I was only buying (I've yet to have the pleasure of selling a house).

any decent conveyancer groans at online and corporate estate agent recommended lawyers....they tend to be slow, no legal training and they make the other lawyer do all the work.

    you were lucky OP

I am using a high street solicitor, who I found via an online quote service. She does everything via email and has (so far) been exceptionally efficient. Completely different to my last solicitors, who were appallingly slow and ignorant of the technology that would have allowed them to significantly speed up the transaction.
