Frustrating Broadspeed

Options
I've been with Sky for my broadband for some considerable time having left BT after years for certain reasons.Despite several calls regarding the speed until yesterday proved unsuccessful in speeding it up. I was getting less than 1mb download! My BT line only supports a max of 3mb which seems to make a mockery of these high speeds offered and by todays standards is pretty poor in my opinion.

I now have 3mb download which I'm pleased with but it had been incorrectly capped when set up! Now I want more!

My question is, and I apologise if it's been asked before, when are BT going to get themselves in gear and sort out the lines. I must get at least 4 mailings a month from them about their home hub and offering high speed internet, I almost feel like sending them back saying 'what a joke'

Has anyone complained to BT about the state of the lines and had any sort of reply?

    Hello,

OFCOM are currently investigating the state of UK broadband speeds and say most people are only getting half of the advertised top speed from their provider.

If you're lucky enough to have an exchange where the provider has their own equipment then you can sometimes get better speeds.

Check out http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange_search for information about your exchange, and look at this site http://www.broadbandspeedchecker.co.uk/broadband_speed_in_my_area.aspx to see what speeds others in your area are reporting.

Well they're putting "Fibers To Cabinet" (FTTC) in right now that should improve things a fair bit:

    www.bt.com/infinity

    https://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumerOrders/control/termsandconditions?docId=29318&pageTitle=BT%20Infinity%20Enablement%20Dates

Although knowing BT they'll likely screw it up and personally I'm not going to get this directly from BT -can't stand call centers :)

think yourself lucky my max speed is 500 K occasionally it's dropped below 250K

BT may be rolling out FTC but as usual they will be rolling it out to places that already have good broadband speed not to the areas that currently have nothing or rubbish broadband
Nothing to see here, move along.

Which ISPs have signed the policy where you can cancel your broadband if it's not up to standards?

Thanks everyone for the replies. I had always been told that the lines supported a max of 3mb but to be honest until Xmas had not even bothered checking so was pretty hacked off when I found out I was getting a third of that for the last 3 years and that Sky had cocked up.

Strangely, I installed a new hub for my out laws last night, their lines should support up to 5mb, they are getting 3 and have a package much higher than that.

Gonna call them later, see what happens

There are plenty of good ISP's that have 30 day contracts, usually the smaller and better companies.
