Hi All,
This may be a completely stupid question, but I'm new to all this so please bear with me.
My partner and I should be moving in to our first bought house together next Friday (he owns our current house on his own). I was just wondering what happens with electricity, gas, water etc.
Do I let our current companies know in advance that we are moving? And do they generally just switch to providing for the new house? Or do we use the suppliers that were previously used in the new house?
Thanks so much.

You can't choose water provider, so you're stuck with the one providing the new house. Call your current water provider with meter reading (if metered) of the old house and ask them to send final bill to new address. If it's unmetered, and you already paid for 6 months or a year, they will refund you pro-rata. Take a meter reading (if metered) in the new house and call your new provider (if different) to set you up. If you're moving in the area, it will probably be the same supplier.
Elec and gas, you can easily switch if the company supplies to the area you're moving to. Again, give them final meter readings from old house and new meter readings from new house. The switching process takes some time (easily 8-10 weeks), so for that time you'll have to pay the current suppliers.
Make sure you get final bills for the old property to avoid any discussion about consumption after you left.
Hope this helps.0
