DVD RW will not read a PC DVD rom

Just bought my son a new computer and everything works well except the DVD rewriter will not read any of his games that are on PC DVD rom. Any ideas how this can be solved ?

It reads regular DVD movies etc and CD media

On advice from the tech support we have updated the firmware via the lite-on website.

    It's a fairly high spec PC with an Athlon 64bit x2 4.6 processor, 2 gig RAM,160 H/D a CD RW and a DVD RW, and a 512mb gforce 6600 graphics card

I hope that works, pity they sold you a pc with poor firmware in the first place. Not like computer games are an unlikely disc to be put in a pc!! My only other thought apart from the firmware issue would be a duff dvd drive that would need replacing. Anyway let us know if it works.

To be fair the firmware was the most up to date version originally and didn't need updating but the problem still remains so I guess it's a duff drive and I'll ask for a replacement tommorrow.

    Thanks for your help
