Seeing as this Argos was the 'only one left in the south east' with that particular phone, it's a good thing the OP only lived 4.5 miles away! And why did it take another 4.5 miles home before realising it was 16 quid more?! :D

  • I reserved a TV at £329 did not realise I had paid £349 as other items were on list, noticed this when I got home, I went back to store and they refunded me the difference without question.:j

Surely if the box has '£59 clearance' on the box you can take it back, with your receipt, and say you feel misled? I have not had any trouble with Argos before. I am almost too embarrassed to admit this but my son had a yoyo from Argos and it seemed to have stopped working properly. I took it back, explained and they replaced it with no fuss or bother (maybe a raised eyebrow).

I actually reserved and collected stuff from argos on a special offer the other day. I was quite clearly told several times that the offer was only valid for another few days and that i would have to collect it before then to qualify.

The Point is that you haven paid any deposit on the goods
thousands of people (Me included) have "Reserved" goods and decided not get them, you can always check the current price just before you go.

How can people "not realise" how much they've spent on one item?

"I only realised that I'd paid £100 instead of £50 when I got home" - that's not very MoneySaving!

    Also...
B&Q have problem with there reserve they can leave the item in shop floor until the whim of the store decides to pick it up and reserve it

That's how it is for me a lot of the time. The vast majority of our stock is on the shop floor, and reservation alerts come up on every till - but sometimes it's incredibly busy and no-one has a spare moment to retrieve the items and print out the reservation. It is annoying, but I always at least check what's been reserved, even if I can't always physically move it into reserve.

OP, take your case the the european court of human rights, im sure they will take the case as you deserve the price you didnt bother to check when paying in store. dont forget compensation too.
9 mile round trip, so it took you 5 minutes to get there by car, petrol, time, emotional stress will all add up.

it says 'Clearance Item' £59 on the box.

Isn't it illegal to charge more than the advertised ticket price on an item ?

But in Argos you only get to see the item after paying, so it can't be seen as "false advertising".

As nearly always, when I see the word scam in a thread title...it isn't!
