Alliance & Leicester - Can I get 6.1% interest instead of 5%?

Hi all,
I notice that the A&L current account that I signed up for has increased its interest rate to 6.1% from 5%.
1) Am I only being paid 5%? I think so.
2) Can I contact them, perhaps, and get "upgraded" to 6.1%?

Well...did you see that Nationwide ads on TV? "for new customer ONLY -- even a pencil". So I don't think A&L will "upgrade" your account, by all mean, let me know if you succeed....I am in the same boat.0

Lots of people on here have asked the very same question and I have yet to see anyone say they have been bumped up to the new rates. It is for new customer only so unless they are feeling very generous I think your lumped with 5% (which is still very very good especially when combined with the 10% regular saver)0

As Humfer posts, 5% + 10% regular saver is a better overall deal than 6.1% without regular saver.
This is no different to any other fixed rate account - the rate is determined by when you open it.0
