noisy carpet

Hi all,
Hoping someone could help. Just had carpet laid and when you walk on it it makes a noise, bit like stepping on a bag of crisps but quieter. Is this normal? Never bought a carpet before will this noise go away after a few days or is there something wrong with the underlay or carpet or the way the carpet has been laid. We had a professional do it. One carpet is on cement the other on wooden floorboards. Both carets are Berben Wool. There is tredaire underlay (ones brown the other redish - can't remember what they are called only that we bought a better quality one for the living room.) Also heard the carpet layers talking about running out of staples - not sure if they found more. could this be the cause?
Thanks
Sarah

Hi, just bumping up my question hoping someone can help me please?:o0
-
I've never come across this before. Perhaps that's why there's no replies - no-one else has either.
I would have a talk with the shop where you bought the carpet and with the fitter. Be aware they may fob you off. Come back on here with their "explanations" and see what other MSErs think.0 -
Thanks, the carpet layer is comming back on saturday, although he sounded puzzled on the phone. will let you know his explaination and hopefully his solution.0

Hello,
I've had this before in one room with the following setup:
Floorboards, Foam Underlay, Carpet with Felt Backing.
It was really weird at first, but after about a month or two of use it stopped.0 -
i've got the answer... on the back of the carpet the factory for some reason that deserts me put strips of sellotape onto the carpet and the carpetfitter has forgot to peel it off so when you stand on that particular area it makes that noise...simple..:j0
-
The sellotape is to hold the roll of carpet together, that is stop it unrolling! The sellotape should be removed before fitting, sometimes the fitters don't bother!
If you have had certain types of foam underlay laid, if it is laid upside down it crackles. It often can stop after a few days/weeks.Unless it is damaged or discontinued - ignore any discount of over 25%0 -
Maybe the carpet fitter left bubble wrap under your carpet ;o))0

Or maybe his lunch, crisps
Wonder what flavour.......0 -
Thanks all for your suggestions. Well the carpet layer came back on saturday and he said he hadn't seen this problem before and didn't know why it was happening. said for us to dive it a week or so and hopefully it will settle, otherwise give him a calll back. Re: celotape- the noise is on every single bit of the carpet so does this make that solution unlikely?0

We had this with a carpet because it had delaminated. Its a fault so dont let them fob you off.0
