Hi,
My friend has just moved here from overseas to work in the UK permanently, she has come with a permanent job offer so which bank would be the best for her to go to open a bank account for her low-medium salary and general banking. She has no savings so which banks would accept her with no credit rating yet?

Usually banks are willing to open a basic bank account - though they might want to have additional paperwork such as an employment confirmation letter or a letter from the employer confirming employment, salary etc.0 -

Halifax will open an esaycash account online. They just ask for a photocopy of passport or ID card. I opened one when had no credit history and no proof of address.
You get a visa electron card and internet banking.
Natwest step is also easy, but they will want to see proof of address.0 -

Hi
There are quite a few filipino nationals that have come to work in the care industry round here and they all seem to use my local hsbc branch.
I think hsbc might be a global brand that they might recognize , I don't have any info on if they're any better for a migrant worker than any other banks.0 -

according to a recent study by (I think Liverpool) University, they found that a dislike for foreigners was primarily exhibited by those with a low education and whom had never or rarely travelled abroad and was not primarily driven by economic concerns although they were frequently used as a justification, when subjects were challenged on their grasp on economics and shown the benefit it creates most were still unwilling to change their viewpoint.
I bet they all bought copies of the Mail and Express the very next day just to steady their nerves.0
