Fairfx vs. Caxtonfx

Hello,

I'm a bit confused by these cards. I'm looking for a card for use inside and outside the Euro zone. I will mainly be withdrawing cash (as originally I was going to take all cash and will not be making large purchases), but some card transactions too. Since the Caxton card doesn't charge for ATM withdrawals is this the better card for me?

Go for the FairFx Anywhere card. That way there will be no need for multiple currency changes. Only a single currency change minus 1.5%.

So does that work out as a better deal than getting the Caxton Global? It seems to suggest on the Caxton website that you can get multiple types of card, so I could get a Euro card for use in Eurozone and the global one for non euro (or the FairFx equivalent)?

If I'm going to make more cash withdrawals than card purchases, then surely the Caxton card is the better option as although the rate of exchange isn't quite as good, you're not charged EUR1.5 each withdrawal?

We recently used the Caxton FX global traveller card in South Africa - best thing we ever did. It was accepted everywhere we wanted to use it and, we were never charged by any atm for withdrawing money.

Thanks Donnie. If it's possible, do you suggest I get a FairFX Euro Card for use in appropriate countries and the FairFX Anywhere Card for non-Eurozone countries?

I think a caxton euro & caxton global is the best way forward. worked for me anyway, used the global to pay for ryanair flights the other day as well. £1.50 as opposed to £20.

Maybe you can explain to us why it is better than the FairFx card?

Andrew beat me to it, when i looked into the two before applying the fair card looked a little more complex and they wanted to charge me and i dont do cashback sites. Caxton charge a tenner per card but that goes on your balance to spend so is in effect free, you often mention the 1% difference in forein exchange rates at atms, but that is not a lot to us mere mortals who only do 1 longhaul a year.
