Why is this even a news story? Do you know that for many years my name address and telephone number was published in a book that was actually distributed to everyone in the area, people could even ring up and get that information! (Yes, it was called the telephone directory, but later I decided to not to bother, and had it removed). If you decide to put up a load of stuff on an online directory why would you be worried about people looking at it? I have a Facebook page but it's pretty much locked down and always has been, but I know my son has his mobile number on it and other information that I'd keep private. You just have to decide what level of information you want to put out there, and even if it's true or not.

You can do it on Google without even being a member of Facebook as Facebook provides the public listing page for every member (unless you opt to not have that information displayed).

I've just double-checked that I downloaded the same data that's pictured in the BBC story, and yes; there appear to be no personal details in this beyond first and last names, and the number of times these occur within Facebook. Riveting (not).
