Go to Uswitch website or moneysupermarket and get a quote.

It will ask you for your postcode as some suppliers vary by postcode location unit price wise.

follow the questionaire through with your supplier information and the website will give you a quote based on your information.

I personally then follow the quotes up on the company website to make sure that they tally.

If you do change it takes approx 4-6wks from you doing the contract to the transfer being completed.

Hi fertyskids - Yes, you should certainly Switch away from SE as they have recently changed their Standard Gas tariffs in a way that severely disadvantages low Gas users such as yourself.

You need to go thro' the last 5 Quartely bills and add up your Gas & Elec use in Kwh to establish how much you consume over a year, ( SE will provide these figures if you ask for them, but double check them by looking at your bills )

Armed with your annual use in Kwh, visit some switch sites - I always start with 'switchwithwhich' who not only show the yearly cost from all the suppliers, but also show all the fine details of the tariffs alongside the fine details of the SE tariff you are on

Did you use kWh or monthly payment amount when doing the comparison to calculate the savings?

Unless you come from the Npower school of how to determine the length of a year I think you will find there are 4 quarters in a year. ;)
    Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently! ;)

The usage will give you a much more accurate quote/savings than using the amount you pay each month.

If you call up your existing supplier they should be able to give you your consumption over the last year assuming you have been giving them regular readings and not just taking the estimates.

Hi Plushchris - The reason for using 5 Qtrs and not 4, to establish consumption over a full 365 day year, is that 4 consecutive Qtly bills rarely cover exactly 365 days.
If they are over, it's easy enough to deduct the daily use on the the latest bill x number of days to adjust the Kwh figure to 365 days
If they are less you need that earlier 5th bill to add a daily use figure x No. of days, to bring your Kwh figure up to 365 days
