  • theres 16 months between my first 2, and I bought a 2nd hand double buggy , tbh I found that it was heavier and wider (obviously), so I ended up walking with little one, and perching her on the handles of our proper pram facing me if that makes sense, she thought it was fun, and it was a lot ligther than lumping a big thing around, - it did not damager the pram (travel system), as we are now using it for no 3....(I must learn to watch more telly as I dont think the pram will worl for no 4, lol)
  • I'm not too concerned about the cost...to be honest I know I'll be able to sell it on in a year or two. These buggies are so popular that there will be a demand for a 2nd hand one on ebay.
I think the toddler seat rain cover is extortionately priced at nearly £70 though. I will make do with a rain poncho and save the cash there.
The basic buggy is £299 and the toddler seat is about £90 I think,
A lady has imported lots of them into the UK apparently because the abcbuggy co. was actually losing money exporting to the UK cos of high shipping costs, so I have been given her address to deal with directly.
I know my girl wont want to be in the buggy mush as toddlers prefer walking but for the times I have to hurry through town etc I want her to be happy and comfy and have a nice view of the world! So in my opinion the initial outlay will be worth it although I will have to save up quite a bit!

Here's a pic for those who havent seen it.

  • i had an age gap of 23 months between my daughters and everyone with simular age gaps said don't bother with a double they never used one get buggy board instead. it didn't work for me they were very hard to push buggy around with board on unless you have very long arms. don't even attempt going up or down a curb. and my daughter kept jumping off and running off. i then bought a maclaren twin from mothercare was about £125 but it was money well spent. we used it for about 9- 11 months until my oldest was old enough to walk wherever we went
  • What a lovely pram! with thoose big wheels it will be a dream to push...
as an experienced pusher though (childminder) I would say that looks like a heavy load and you can't see the baby in the front at all-unless you walk around! I would recomend a lighter pram with smaller wheels if you have to lift it to put in the car boot!
I have a side by side buggy I bought from Argos a few years ago and it is still in good nick£50 in the sale-I did use my old rain cover though to bring down the price. A side by side buggy means both children can have a sleep as both seats lie flat...
Their is lots of pro's and cons over which is best...
    Best Wishes...
If winter comes, can spring be far behind?
    Spring begins on 21st March.
  • Thanks Nicola,
Yeah I can't imagine mine on a Buggy board either- no chance! she'd be off in a flash! We know we wont be using it for too long but even 6 mnths is worth it IMO. Especially with a newborn, I just want as easy a life as possible! I know toddlers love to walk but mine will only be 2 and a half and kids that age dont walk very fast - sometimes you just cant afford to go that slow! Also we'd like to go for quite long Country walks and little legs soon get tired.
Thanks for sharing your experience :)

i'm really suprised you can manage it with a 4 year old in the front - i tried one with my then nearly 3 year old, and we toppled it over in the shop. it was so unstable with a large toddler in the front. he loved it, but we had to pursuade him that "crash" was not a feature we were looking for in a buggy. :D in the end we have just made him walk everywhere, and bought a new buggy for the baby.

Funny that people rave about Jane buggies. Perhaps they have improved, but 2 years ago when I bought my travel system I would say it was a major contributing factor towards a very miserable first few months of motherhood. Very difficult to use, nowhere to put the shopping. No instructions to speak of. If I had my time again I would probably go for a stokke xplory, a maclarens or a bugaboo thingy.

  • We have a two year two month age gap, and I've not needed a double. When baby was tiny, he was still in pushchair and she went in a sling. When she got big enough to go in the pushchair, he walked. Marathon treks round town aren't easy, but who wants to do that with two kids in tow anyway?

Much cheaper than £500 for a double buggy that's only got a limited lifespan!
