Sewerage and foul water Mains problems :-(

Severn Trent water are responsible for both the sewerage and rainwater main drains that run within a few feet of my property, as my house is unfortunately the last one on the wrong side of the road :-( They have been negligent with their maintenance and tree root ingress has caused problems with both these mains backing up on a regular basis in the five years I have lived here. Recently I realised that the rainwater main backing up has water logged the foundation of my attached garage, causing subsidence, structural damage to the concrete floor and house drains.
I will need to get some compensation for this damage at some point and was hoping that some good people from this forum may be able to advise me of the best way to go about this.

Contact your insurers, hopefully they will sort the problem out and pursue the water board for the cost.
Proving they were negligent may be difficult. Blockages do occur in sewage systems.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
