selling my air tickets to another user, legal?

I have two return tickets, that I cannot use, to travel to Rome from Stansted on 25.9.06, returning 4 nights later, all booked with Ryan Air. Family circumstances mean I cannot travel, but am not covered by my insurance, can I legally sell these tickets on the net, ( or elsewhere) and how does it work? As a lone parent I can't afford to lose the money.Help!

  • I think you can have the tickets transferred to another name but you usually have penalty fees along with this. Check Ryanairs website for details

Have a browse of the ryanair website for how much a new ticket would cost and also the cost of name changes and see if there is a difference and whether anybody would buy the ticket from you.

A lot of airlines charge £15 per change i.e. name change in this case. But if it was to be on a different day or different time it would be £15 each one. Don't know how much it is with Ryan Air but the website will tell you.

According to the Ryanair website there is a charge of £70 per person to change names. Pretty much in the balance then as to whether or not it would be worth anyones time to buy the tickets from you or just book straight with Ryanair.

What a rip off. I knew it must have gone up but that is ridiculous. I have never used Ryan Air. I always use Monarch because of the exceptional service I get from them.

Why is that a rip off? It stops people buying tickets really cheap and then selling them later on when the price of tickets go up.

  • Monarch aren't much better for name changes
"CHANGE FEES per passenger per one-way flight are as follows: online time/date change GBP15 (EUR25) (GBP20 via call centre) ; name change GBP20 (EUR30) available via call centre only ; all changes are also subject to payment of any difference between the original fare purchased and the fare at the time of making the change (if higher)."

So it's £40 each ticket (RTN) plus any difference in price between the price you paid and the price on the day of the change!!

I really find it strange when people make comments lile this. Ryanair go to a lot more destinations than Monarch. What do you do if you want to go somewhere that Monarch dosen't fly to? Do you get the train or the Bus?
  • You may be able to get a refund of the Government Tax
All Ryanair fares are fully changeable flight/dates/times/routes and names (up to 4 hours prior to original flight departure) however fares, fees or charges are non-refundable.Government taxes may be refunded. Ryanair apply an administration charge per person for tax refund requests. If the refund amount due to the customer is less than the applicable refund administration charge then no refund will be made. Tax refund requests must be made within one month from the booked travel date.

assuming "booked travel date" means "post/after the booked travel date".

Will have to find out what their "admin charge" is though.
