Is this false advertising from Tesco!

I really love Villa Maria Sauvignon Blanc but it's a bit pricey so I do a lot of searching. I found an advert on a google search from Tesco which seems to be completely false. When I called them they didn't know of any offer or if there ever had been. I feel a bit duped. If they'd advertised this price in a magazine surely they'd have had to stand by it so why can they get away with it on the internet?

It was for 40% off.

Did you verify that it was "official" tesco?
Was in on their website?
Was it current?

They can't offer any old offer that may or may not be posted by someone somewhere on the internet...

I wish I could post the screen shot. It wasn't on their web site, but if you type villa maria sauvignon blanc into google the advert is right there on google's sponsored links and links directly to the Tesco page for the wine. That means someone is paying every time you click on that link so won't be spam. There is no end date on the offer so I suppose that's current.

It's probably an out of date link.

I hate using the shopping comparison sites as invariably I end up clicking on an offer like this - out of date . It may be accidental, it may be deliberate, I don't know but it's not the only one out there so I doubt very much you have any recourse as the link it took you to clearly says the price you will have to pay, it's not like it hides the higher price til you put your card no in.

It does say on the Tesco Wine webpage that it's undergoing maintenance and will be back up on Monday, so I don't know if that's having an effect on not being able to access the right offer from elsewhere.

Google have many data centres, it's probably just that the new price hasn't filtered down to them all yet. So the ad you see will depend on which datacentre you connect to when doing the search.

Certainly not false advertising, only price they have to stand by is the one on the site itself and even then, DSR rules allow them to cancel orders and such if there is a mistake anywhere.
