On my main puter I have got some sort of a problem. Today, instead of normally booting up it took me to a page called Hardware monitor. It is only there for a few seconds but has a few lines of data. Then off we go, normal boot up.
However each time it boots my puter clock changes. Am I correct in assuming that the battery on my mother board needs replacing. An " expert " suggested a virus, which in truth, I was pestered by at the weekend, however I have run all the scans I can think of and the system now seems clear of any virus or indeed spyware. All help I will be grateful of.

Yes, sounds like the BIOS backup battery - typically a CR2032 lithium coin cell, if memory serves correctly.
Try not to get ripped off by some computer shops that charge £3.99 - it should not cost a lot more than a quid.
[Incidentally there are viruses that can mess with your BIOS settings, though I don't think they were ever widespread - more "proof of concept" than anything else IIRC]0 -
Yup...I agree...CMOS Battery...:)0

Hi,
you should get a battery for £1, here's a wee video showing how, switch off and unplug before you get into the guts.0
