BT telegraph poles - do they all have to be earthed/have lightening conductors?

Hoping there is a bt engineer out there that will read this, can you tell me of all bt telegraph poles have to have lightening conductors/earths on them?
look after the pennies and the pounds look after themselves.

Hi Farway,
the reason I was asking the question was that when the BT engineer came to replace our phone socket he looked at the poles outside and said they should have had lightening conductors on, only the one directly outside our house had one and none of the ones up the road did, he then said as long as every third or fourth one had a conductor on it was ok, but I have walked up the road and cant see one on any other than the one on our polelook after the pennies and the pounds look after themselves.0
