Car Insurance - moving house.... demanding £242 in 10 days?

Hi all,
so i currently have my car insurance with Quinn... and i have just called them to notify them i will be moving house.

They have told me i have to pay £242 and have 10 days to pay.... i am really at a loss as it is such a lot of money... i asked if i could pay it monthly but they said because my original policy was paid in full so does this new amount.

Is there anything i can do ?! :(:(

Pay it or cancel I'm afraid.

The increase suggests you are moving to a more expensive area and probably have a fair bit of term left in the policy year.

Unfortunately this is a risk you take, we're facing it again...

Last year we had to pay the difference because we'd gone from a private car park to a private driveway and yet it was in a fairly good area....It made no sense thoguh fortunately it wasn't as much as yours...Not sure what it will be this time though.

How many months have you got left?

You could see what a new policy will cost now elsewhere.

If it's cost effective, (bearing in mind you won't get any NCD added for the current part year and cancellation fees with Quinn) you could take out a monthly instalment plan with the new insurer and cancel your current policy.

Thanks for all of your great responces.......

I took the insurance out in Nov.... and paid just over £600. I have looked at moving my policy elsewhere for the area i am moving to and it seems to jump up to around £800.

I know it would be cheaper to cancel my one with quinn and go for the insurance with another provider.... but come novemeber i will have 1 years no claims so it might be worthwhile sticking with them and coughing up the £240 odd.......

will have to do some more research i think.... x

On those figures you will be better off staying where you are (assuming you can somehow get hold of the £240 demanded now).

With just 3 months left to run, you won't get much of a premium refund, (if any), plus have to pay their cancellation charge, and having 1 year's NCD will be worthwhile at renewal time.
