Advice needed - Bought car thats RUBBISH.....

Key Points of the story...
I bought a car (04 reg mini) from a local privately owned garage in March. The car came with 3 months warranty.
Within a few weeks the engine had broken down and required a complete new one.
This was done for me (FOC under warrenty of course.) and it took about 3 weeks.
In Late April the car broke down again - again fixed under warranty FOC. It took around a week and a half to fix.
The car has now broken down again and has been in the garage for almost 3 weeks now. It will be fixed FOC - even though its out of warranty.
I am now on my 4th curtesy car as they have ALL broke down in some way shape or form.
I have hinted to the garage in question that I am not happy with the car and would like my money back, as all it seems to have is problems. He has told me under no uncertain terms that he will not take the car back and give me my money back.
My question to you smart folks - Does anyone know if I actually have a case to geet my money back for the car if I went through small claims? (is that even the best way to go about it? ) Please consider that I am out of warranty - but strictly speaking the car has not been in my possession for longer that a few weeks at a time.
Id love to hear some informed comments on the situation.
Thanks

you would probably be well within your rights to reject the car as it is not fit for the purpose that is was sold for. i.e. it doesn't work!
have a butchers at this....http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/consumer-rightsFinally The Rock has come back to MSE....0 -
So the car has had a new engine, and it's still no good????"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0
-
Are you sure it had a complete " new " engine..?
I have my doubts.0 -
I believe a large part of the engine was replaced - perhaps not all of it ! Please bear in mind I have no idea on the inner workings of the car! :0)
If the advice im offered here requires me listing exactly what was wrong with the car please let me know and i'll dig outthe info - I thought the timescales were more important that the actual problems :0)
Thanks :0)0 -
Even the courtesy cars they gave have broken down?! Are you sure it's not the kryptonite in your pocket that is the problem??"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

Care to elaborate...?
Could it be your driving style if its the same fault four times?!
We had a customer a few years ago. A right whingey, cantankerous old bag she was. Anyway, she was complaining of a scraping noise when turning corners, so she brought the car in and we couldnt find anything wrong with it, so returned it to her a few hours later.
9.00 the next morning she was on the phone complaining of the same fault, so we had the car back in again. Weeks went by and the car was perfect for us. We even did about 2000 miles in it and still nothing!
In the end after snotty letters from Trading Standards we asked her to bring the Trading Standards Officer with her so we could all be singing from the Hymn Sheet.
Turned out to be her stupid god damm multitude of keyrings scraping on the plastic steering cover... She felt a right stupid !!!!!!...0 -

Instead of calling her names the first time, you should have let her take you out for a drive, you would have found it without all the hassle then.0 -
She just wanted to leave the car with us. She didnt want to hang around or "waste her time" by joining us on a test drive. Just a typical gobby old bag! I remember doing the finance with her and she'd lived in three different places over the space of 4 years. All were with different blokes...0
