I'm looking to get a HD monitor eventually but wasn't sure in what order to do it, if I buy a HD graphics card will that work ok on a normal monitor until I can afford a new monitor? Or is it best to wait and buy both at the same time?

Will work on a normal monitor. Card will just have more than one kind of output.0

Most graphics cards will support an HD monitor with the correct drivers. I recently connected a 1920x1080 monitor to an EEPC which is basically a netbook and has onboard Intel graphics. I did have to get the latest drivers though.
To see if your current card will support an HD monitor you'll need to use google to check. If it does then the sequence of buying is entirely down to you but I'd get the monitor first and an improved graphics card later - it really depends on what you intend to use it for.0 -
games mainly, but they are also running a bit slow at the moment, I have plenty of RAM so I was guessing it is probably the graphics card as it's only a small one:idea: Jan 09. Obviously you'll need to get the card first to improve the games and as mentioned your existing monitor will be supported so long as you can match up the connectors.
The higher resolution the screen is the better the graphics card you'll need to support any given frame rate btw. You may well end up running games on less than the HD monitor native resolution.0 -
thank you
I'm asking people for money for my birthday, I know I won't get much, but can put it towards a decent graphics card and then gradually save up for the monitor
