economy 7 / super tariff ???
Hi...we are ( eventually ) looking to switch gas and electric providers. Wife has worked out that we would make good savings if we do so....however, when filling online forms for comparison..we are prompted to say if we have Economy 7. We have super tariff...this comes on during night also for a short burst in afternoon....is this the same as Econ. 7 ?...there doesnt seem to be a supertariff option...so not sure if out comparison is accurate..??
thanks ian

We rent our flat and when we moved in our landlord told us it was E7. Having had some hassle with our bills it came about that I had the meter man reading our meters with me looking over his shoulder, and he said although our tariff was E7, the meter was also programmed for 1 1/2 hours in the afternoon, between 3 and 4:30. He said it's a leftover from it being on an old tariff, and if we wanted to switch we'd lose it as no-one does it anymore, but it does mean if we need a re-injection of hot water mid afternoon it's on the E7 price (not that we're ever THERE at that time *l*)
So if he was being honest, it's a hangover from better days, and switching would mean you'd lose it. Best thing to do would be to phone up your supplier tho and check exactly what tariff you're on and how it works - ours (EDF) just transferred us over to the standard E7 it seems and so gives us a little more E7 for our buck!
We looked at switching various times, but bizarrely because we have 2 separate meters (also leftover from old tariff) rather than one with 2 readings, none of the other providers could make it work, so we're stuck with EDF. However, they're meant to be one of the best for E7 so we're just going to let sleeping dogs lie for now.
I'm curious tho - normally E7 is only prevalent for those with overnight storage heaters, which is almost always for those only with electricity and no gas. Have you checked that E7 is actually worth it if you have GCH?0 -

Is this the Supertariff from nPower?
I believe this is a 3 rate supply; if so, it'll be almost impossible to switch from (unless you make some alterations to the current electrical installation). That's why it's not on the comparison sites."Now to trolling as a concept. ....
