Wireless confusion, please help!!

Before you ask, I've scanned the sticky but can't find information I need....

I'm confused!!

Have a pc laptop with wireless card, and a soon to be purchased MacBook with Airport Extreme card, and NTL broadband connection.

I want to get a wireless router, and need a cable one. Was thinking of getting Airport Express (£89) from Apple Store, as it looks like a good product (although have heard they have limited shelf life?), and has a USB port so I can print from both wireless laptops.

However, I'm not sure if the Airport Express is just really designed as a wireless access point to boost existing networks, and as such range may not be very good (my house has thick walls!) Have seen an Airport Extreme base station in PCWorld which looks more like the traditional routers, so wonder if that's supposed to be the main router, hence its £139 price tag.

If Airport Express isn't up to the job, can anyone recommend a wireless router that might be (preferably with a print sharing option)? As part of a negotiation with NTL they have agreed to pay for a router for me, so money isn't a major concern (up to approx £100). Did think it could be worth getting a MIMO router, but then not sure if the benefits can be had if you don't have MIMO adapters?

Any advice!
Cheers

    HI,

You should be OK with any wireless Cable/DSL router. No need to get the apple ones.

A MIMO would be good -- has 3-4 antennae-- or Rangemax.

You may not get the max speeds -- they need to have matched transmitters and adapters.

Most routers should go thru 2-3 brick walls. Do you have the option of laying down a cable?

    Cheers
