AVG update problem

I'm hoping someone can help as this is driving me round the bend!
We have just gotten our first wireless hub thingy (I know bit behind the times!).
AVG now appears to be having a problem locating our wireless network and won't update. I have tried updating and also downloading version 9, but it still says that AVG can't locate an internet connection.
I have looked on AVG / Tools and then Update. There is a Proxy, Dial-up and URL section but none of these tabs have anything that looks remotely like where I would enter the wireless details.
Anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong???

1. Check you can actually access the internet
2. You don't have an outgoing firewwall up (you shouldn't have, wiindows built in Firewall is perfectly sufficient and 3rd party ones aren't normally necessary)
3. Worth following the usual malware bytes / hijack this log is AVG is pretty much a junk antivirus these ddays about as effective as a wet paper bag at detecting and keeping viruses out and you might wwell find you've picked something up
3. You might find AVG then connects to the internet but are strongly advised to switch to one of the reliable free Anti Virus providers such as Microsoft Security Essentials, Avira or Avast0 -

Thanks both. Yes eveything else is working ok. I've been on the internet most of the day.
The problem has only started since we connected our new wireless box when we switched from Tiscali to Plusnet on Monday. It appears to be trying to find a dial up connection, which we obviously don't have now that we are wireless.
We last updated AVG on the 15th of this month via our previous modem with Tiscali, eveything was fine then.
I'm going to try and download Avast instead.£400+ in my £2 coin tablet fund0 -

The problem is not with your anti-virus.
Go to Control Panel, Internet Connections, Select the Connections Tab and check the Never dial a connection box, Apply then OK. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

Thanks, but I did this when I connected my new wireless box.
Just to clarify. I have used the internet and downloaded a few things today - so the internet is working fine.
However, when I run the AVG update (which I have just done again whilst responding here), it tries and then brings up an error box which says that update has failed, problem with your connection, make sure your connection to the internet is active...£400+ in my £2 coin tablet fund0 -
If you decide to install Avast be sure to run Avg removal tool first.

Done a forum search recently? regular postings by people with viruses who had been relying on that junk? coincidence?

It used to get 4-5 stars back in 2006 when it was actually good.... scroll down any recent reviews and its 1 star occasionally managing 20 -
I installed AVG 9 last week, and then de-installed.
God, was it slow or what?
Gone back to 8 until they sort their act out.0
