Tesco home insurance V Direct Line

I've got quotes for building and contents insurance from various companies. Tesco have come in very cheaply with their 'Finest' policy being over £100 cheaper than a comparable policy with Direct Line. I seem to recall Tesco having had some bad reviews and wondered if people thought it best to pay extra for Direct line?

They're the same company so... I wouldnt bother!

UK Insurance is owned by RBS... who owns Direct Line :)

All their call centres are the same... just one may offer something the other doesnt etc

Thank you, I hadn't realised that!

The Tesco quote actually covers more than the Direct Line quote, everything with Direct Line was 'extra' and the saving by going to Tesco is quite a lot.

Tesco has also come out very competitive when I got a quote today, much less than Quoteline Direct (who quoted me a 50% increase as my previous insurer's renewal quote is "not available").

Any Clubcard deals out there at the moment I wonder?
  • remember direct line will BEAT any like for like quote, i challenged this with both car and house this year, took best quotes from TESCO, took a little off for good will and threw them the option.

Direct line matched both, i am quids in but no club card points:(

Used AMEX Airmiles though so got a few of those :D

If they are the same company then i double win,:T
Marry a Foreigner, its so much cheaper!

If they are the same company, and you don't get clubcard points, and according to Soolin's post you get more covered with Tesco, how do you win?
Personally I hate companies that will charge a high price initially, then bring it down when you challenge them. It just shows how much they are trying to overcharge initially. I always wonder if that is their initial cynical attitude to customers, is it an indication of what they will be like later?

I was with Tesco last year, had a claim which, to give them their due was sorted out (was a mandate to be redeemed at a choice of outlets so not perfect). Renewal price was way over but when I tried out some of the comparison sites I found Tesco were cheaper than last year's price..so ended up renewing with them again.

I like the way they guarantee their repairs which is something they have to do... very generous

Hmm, Defaqto is comparing Tesco's premium product 'Finest' with Direct Lines' standard one. I was tempted by the Tesco 'Standard' offering after adjusting one cover value upwards.

The two comparisons I gave were Tesco Finest with Direct Line Insurance 'Plus'
