NS&I Premium Bonds - application

Options
Hi

If I was to apply for the maximum holding using a debit card, I understand there may be issues with the daily limits on the debit card.

What are people's experiences? Do they just take it in equal amounts over the next 2 - 3 consecutive days?

What if I applied for only 10,000 today, then decided I wanted to top it up later today or tomorrow - can this be done? I guess I will need my PB holders' number in order to add to the account - is this immediately available?

Appreciate if light could be shed on the above please.

Thanks.

The daily limit depends on the debit card issuer. Only they can answer your question.

EDIT: If you apply by phone NS&I should be able to confirm the debit card transaction immediately. Online applications are not processed immediately. I once had an online debit card transaction rejected by Nationwide (for reasons that were never explained ) but only found out next day via email from NS&I.

The daily limit, generally, depends solely on your balance in the account.

I've used mine, with NS&I, to purchase 2 x £30k from a joint account - in the past - with no issues. (But - the return on PBs was a lot healthier at that time!)

    Thanks for the replies.

How long does the welcome pack take to arrive once they've processed the initial application (debit card payment taken)?

Could I submit another application (generating another holder number), or would I need to wait for it to come through the post before I could 'top up' my PBs?
