Laptop tracker software

I came across a piece of software which was from a dvd free with a pc magazine called pal pc tracker

Has anyone had any experiance with any such software?
(that you can track if yor laptops stolen)

only works if someone connects the laptop to the internet (and before they reformat it)

Maybe there are some stats on how effective it is, it wouldn't surprise me if most laptop thieves are simply opportunistic and would even know how to reformat a drive.

I thought most laptops had a built in "Help, help Ive been stolen" stuck into the chip. Or is that just wishful thinking.

I didnt think that reformatting it would effect it?

The thieves might not but the guy buying the knocked off laptop probably will.

As to the chips - nope, thats wishful thinking some laptops have a password chip in them which is hard but not impossible to bypass
