Time To Sign Contracts

Afternoon all,

Just a quick query, I am in the final stages of buying my first house, the solicitor says we will recieve the contracts to sign at the end of this week. However I have a question regarding the services at the house, e.g. Gas, Electric. Will the solicitor find out who supplies the gas, electric and water and then let me know? also when I move in I need to take the meter readings, will I need someone else present to verify the reading? If so who, and when should I arrange this for?

Thanks for your help,

Phil

The solictor probably won't find out who the suppliers are, go via the EA or seller to try & get this info. Read the metre's when you get to the property, the seller should have read them when they leave, you don't need anybody to verify the readings.
  • We are selling our house and the solicitor raised all these questions on the additional enquiries form, which we had to complete,so ask your solictor if they have had this form through from your vendors solicitor.
And yes when you move in one of the first things to do is take meter readings.

When we were purchasing a house last year (fell through), we were given all this information via the solicotor. Our solicitor had a questionnaire that the seller completed and we were able to get this information.

Buying again this year, but so far none of this information has been provided, but we are a long way off yet.
  • We are in the process of buying a house that has been rented out for the last 10 years. The vendors said that they don’t know who the current suppliers are so I set out to find the information myself. Here is what I discovered…

To find the gas supplier at the new house, contact Transco Meter Helpline on 0870 608 1524.

To find your new electricity supplier log onto the MPAS (Meter Point Administration Service) website http://www.energylinx.co.uk/mpas_online.htm This will tell you the distribution company for your area. You can then phone the number displayed to get the supplier information.

    I hope that this helps.
