Hi - try asking at your local motorcycle shops - they usually are able to recommend training schools.
You have to have a CBT (mine was a day cost @ £100) before you can ride with L Plates on the road (on a legal machine of course)
Because you're over 21 you'll have a couple of options either way you will need to have a Theory test
- you can do your CBT, get a 125cc and ride that with L Plates, when you feel ready you can take lessons and take a test - which when passed will allow you to ride a slightly bigger bike (250cc or 35 bhp I think) for two years then you can ride anything.
- alternately if you can afford it you can do a direct access which can cover everything above over a number of days (for a total beginner it seems to be 5 or 6 days) at the end of which you can take your test on a larger bike and so will be allowed to ride anything.
Ask at the training schools - you can often do these as individual days over a period of time, which is good if you ride as a learner, or others offer block courses so you end up with a full licence if you pass.
There's lots of info on the DVLA sites and places like MAG & BMF sites (sorry don't have links to hand) there's lots of info out there if you look for it.
I did my CBT in April and have been riding a 125cc Honda Shadow over the summer, I've decided I want to go do my direct access at Riders Edge in Wales (https://www.ridersedge.co.uk) - a residential direct access especially for riding Harley Davidsons (which I the style of bike I want to ride)
I believe that BMW also have a place in Wales - and there'll be many more that do similar without being linked to a manufacturer.
Good look and hope you enjoy riding as much as I do.
