So today marks 5 weeks to the day that HFC received my initial complaint. It's also 4 weeks since they received their own questionnaire that they sent me (ie, I received their questionnaire a week later and sent it back the same day).

Today I have received a letter (dated 26th August!!) asking for a further 28 days as they have been 'unable to resolve my complaint'.

    To quote from the letter:

"May we request your patience for a further 28 days, by which time we would hope to be in a position to bring your complaint to a conclusion".

What are my options here? Am I stuck and have to give them a further month?

    Hi there

They are all entitled to a total of up to 8 weeks to give a decision, some do ask for more time to investigate.

Once the 8 weeks have passed though, you are in your right to make a complaint to the financial ombudsman service (FOS), but as they have given a timescale it may be worth you waiting till then, see what they come back with.

    Good luck with this.;)

So.. Their initial 8 weeks are up today.

I'm tempted to give them the 28 days they requested but only as of the date they sent the letter requesting it. I've got a feeling in my bones that trying to get them to part with the money will be easier said than done.

    Hi there

Sometimes they are never on the dot, give it until next week, and if you hear nothing then give them a quick ring to ask for an update, do not accept any offer on the phone though and ask for written correspondence.
There is no harm if your eager to know to ring them now if you want to.;)

Lol very true. I'm happy to give them a little extra time, it looks better on me if it ends up going to the FOS at the end of the day. It was even HFC themselves that said they are meant to get it dealt with within 8 weeks as per FSA guidleines lol.

Hi there, this thread is from last year and the claims were paid.
