Good stuff Andy.
Thank you for being the adder upper for September.
And thanks to F_F for volunteering for October.
Although it's a fair way off, I would like to throw my hat into the ring and volunteer for December.
I don't do daily PADs at the moment. I found that when it was time to pay my tax bill, I was having to "re-borrow" some of the money. So I now let money go into a separate account for tax and try never to touch it. Hopefully enough will be in there come Jan 31. I won't PAD tax money any more unless it ever becomes an actual debt. Up till recently, I did PAD tax and accountancy fees because it was debt relating to money that I earned before I started PADing (Jan '09).
That is no longer the case.
Although things are now under better control financially, I'm still a long way from being out of the woods. It would only take an illness or a round of interest rate hikes to make things difficult again.
I just finished my accounting year yesterday. Best one ever by about £2k but I have really grafted to make it that way.
October is always a difficult month. Van and business insurances up for renewal. Second part of water and sewage bills. Half yearly service charge bill for the flat. Just to add some spice to it, I will need three new tyres within the next few weeks as well.
Heeeeeeeeeeelppppppppp !! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: .
The best thing of all though is that since I realised that I could gradually get through my debt crisis without rescheduling my debts, my stress levels have slowly dropped. I didn't realise this till a few days ago.
For nearly a decade my first waking thoughts would be about how to get the money for the next bill. Indeed I would sometimes awaken during the night and go straight into anxiety mode. That stuff could sometimes stick with me throughout the day. It's still not great but it's much better.
I've paid off about £12k of debt since the start of 2009. Assuming minimum card payments averaging about 2% a month, that's the equivalent of £240 a month drop in outgoings. Plus I made other cuts too. In a few days time I will make the final payment on my van loan (5 years). That will save another £200 a month. It helped when my fixed rate mortgage went to SVR last Autumn too. That has saved me £160 - £170 a month over the last year or so.
Although I still owe well over £40k in addition to my mortgage, things are just starting to turn around - bit by bit. It's taken me nearly two years of debt busting just to get this far.
I even had the confidence to take on a small work unit (cost c. £150 a month incl. utilities). That sounds a lot but I partially offset this by making reductions elsewhere.
When I eventually drop below £40k, I will re-enable my signature display. It's taken longer than expected to get there but I reckon maybe around May of June next year.
