Hi All,
I am a 37 married man with 3 children. I am out of work and and starting college in September and have applied for an ALG. I know there are a lot of knowledgeable people on here and was just wondering if i qualify to receive the ALG whether that would then affect the amount of Child tax credits/Working tax credits or housing/council tax benefit we receive. I hope not as we are living on the bread line now and the ALG would cover transport to college and books really.
Cheers for your help in advance..

As far as I am aware it doesn't affect your tax credits and you will have to let housing benefit know as they do need to know about it. I received it last year and I think they only took a small amount into consideration for income purposes.0

"You can still apply for ALG if you’re getting most ‘in work’ benefits, but not ‘out of work’ benefits. Be aware that for some forms of financial help, ALG payments will be taken into account when working out your entitlement."
"You should be aware that any ALG payments you get will be taken into account when working out your entitlement to some of these forms of financial help. This applies to:- Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit
- Discretionary Support Funds"
