FOS: This is getting ridiculous now...?

I am getting so frustrated...

I just spoke to the Financial Ombudsman Service about a complaint that started in July 2009 (last year):

https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2020069

2 months ago they wrote to me advising that Barclays had agreed to settle in my favour, but Barclays hadn't done so at all. In fact, the FOS got the issues in my complaint muddled up and had assigned it to the PPI team when my complaint wasn't a simple issue of being charged PPI.

The FOS reopened my case and I've just phoned up to see where things stand. I've been told that my case is still waiting to be assigned to an adjudicator. They've advised that this is likely to happen no sooner than October and I might expect a response or outcome to my enquiry by January.

I'm sorry to sound like a moaner, but this is just ridiculous: the complaint started in July 2009 and isn't going to be resolved (either way) until January 2011? That's 1 year and 6 months from end-to-end.

Is there any route I could take to try and get the FOS to look at my complaint any quicker? Surely it's not acceptable that if a consumer has an issue with a lender that they have to wait over a year a half to actually have a reply?!?!

Feeling so frustrated with it all and just want my complaint to be settled...

Hi There I appreciate your frustration.

Just to say that a wait of 2 years is not unheard of. I have in fact been waiting 2 1/2 years for a Lloyds PPI Credit Card to be sorted out. Saying this I had others that were sorted within a couple of months.

I know if is frustrating and you could try to get it looked at quicker but usually they will only consider that if you can prove that you are suffering financial difficulty.

Good Luck and hope it gets sorted soon.

    Hi there

    Sorry to hear this.

I did read somewhere the other day that someone had wrote to the Manager of the FOS, however they waited over 2 and a half years before the case was moved on to an adjudicator, and was was also in financial hardship, this then was suddenly moved on due to this reason.

If your in financial hardship, do let them know this and ask for fast tracking if possible.
Think her name is Natalie Ceeny, you could contact them on the general tel number I think for her details.;)

Good luck, please keep us posted. X
