Hi all,
me and by boyfrined have recebtly changed address. I view my account online so updated my address detials there last week - at the cost of £16.80 added to my premium for the remaining year.
ok, or so i thought.
my partner rings up Direct Line and changes the address and is charged NOTHING! his premium stays the same!
how does that happen? we both moved from the same address to the same new address. im confused? can anyone offer any advice before i ring them?

Are you both with Direct Line? If so I would query this with them, if not then you are probably with two different underwriters which can rate the postcode risk differently. Either way a change has been made to the policy which has led to the underwriter/insurance company reassessing the risk and charging accordingly.
Hope this helps.:)0 -
Thanks for the advice.
yes we are both with direct line .
will keep this post updated and let you know the outcome
thanks again0 -
Just phoned Direct Line and asked them why is different?
they said its not just the postcode it takes into account, it looks at claims in the area, and also look our policies seperatley so this is the reason,
I still dont understand it really as ive got 2 years more no claims then my boyfriend.

Do you have the same product versions and same underwriters?
Over the years, the providers come out with revised products and you can end up with effectively version 1, 2, 3 etc and the ways terms are calculated can differ.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Main reason will probably be that their rating structure includes loadings/discounts based on a matrix of vehicle group by area.0

This looks to be human discretion v "computer says".
Your boy spoke to someone, and as the change in address looks to mean a refund of premium, though the admin charge wipes this out, it looks like the human was able to wipe out the balance left owing after the credit was applied but wipd by the admin charge.
In your case you did this online, the change did result in a credit, but this was more than wiped out by the admin charge, the computer has no discretion, and you have to pay this small extra amount each month.0 -
I changed my address with them last month and wasn't charged anything.0

Didn't someone say recently that DL only charge extra when it's above a certain amount. For argument sake, say their floor limit is £15. If your extra charge is £9 they wont levy it but if its £16 they will.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only.
