Been offered a mattress topper but need advice

In true MSE style I've been offered a little-used mattress topper :j

I never say no to anything free! :A

However, it is for a 5' bed and mine's 4'6"

Can it be cut down by 6" or will the sides be ok folded over the side of my existing mattress?

I haven't seen it yet so I don't know how thick it is.

Ideas anyone?

If it is a foam topper then yes you can cut it down. However if it has a fabric cover then you will need to also reduce the size of that. You will also have to cut 3" off the end, as king size beds are 6'6" long, and doubles are 6'3" long.

Electric carving knives are good for cutting foam, but make sure you mark the cut line first, and then if possible use a metal straight edge to guide the knife. And most importantly, watch those fingers.
