I often read this site from my phone, and was thinking it would be nice if there was a mobile version of this site, especially the forums. Any plans on doing this?

It costs money, and as this is a money saving site, it's not likely to happen unless someone writes the software for free. Are you offering?0

Oh please, what a tight-!!!! response, you know this is one of the downfalls of this forum, the snobbery is rife and arises from the simplest of questions. One of the problems of an old user base I guess.
It's a funny thing you say that because as a web developer I CAN write the software for a mobile version of this site. The question is, can you guarantee its implementation on this site?0 -
Why exactly would you want a mobile version of a forum? Works prefectly fine as it is. Maybe you just need to get a better phone...If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

Well considering you been a member for over 4 years and 31 posts does this mean If a mobile version of this site becomes available you might contribute more given you hardly post at all anyway forums or maybe fortunate you wont which ever takes your fancyihatebanks wrote: »Oh please, what a tight-!!!! response, you know this is one of the downfalls of this forum, the snobbery is rife and arises from the simplest of questions. Where ever you go you get snobbery its not unique to this forum.
Try going out to the real world rather than using mobile to your virtual worldihatebanks wrote: »Oh please, what a tight-!!!! response, you know this is one of the downfalls of this forum, the snobbery is rife and arises from the simplest of questions. What has that got to do with anything? This is exactly what I mean, people going off topic for no real reason.
All I was after was someone from the MSE team to say something along the lines of "Yes, we're considering something like this for the future" or "We have no plans for this right now"0 -
It has everything to do with you and why you want a mobile version
I get impression just because people dont agree with you we are some how a snob or whatever.
You hardly post, why do you want a mobile version anyway?
You want a reply for MSE they hardly every come on here have a long wait hope you rack up a high mobile charge while you are at it
Take a chill pill tooihatebanks wrote: »What has that got to do with anything? This is exactly what I mean, people going off topic for no real reason.

There are several mobile skins available for vBulletin along with automatic redirection for mobile users.
I'd argue from a user experience point of view the forum has too much crap on it for normal browser use let alone mobile use and that makes it really hard to use on a mobile in it's current form (but that's not unique to MSE)
As mobile access becomes more common, then the forum will need to be updated to reflect that0 -
The forum is a popular place and i agree a mobile version would be great if one were available.
The reason being bandwidth. I can view MSE alright on my Nokia5800 over wifi. But on GPRS/3G there is no hope of it working as the pages are 500kb-1500KB each. It takes along time to load.
A mobile version, just needs no header or pageside content, with posts stripped down to plain text, much like the style of archived forums.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies0
