Moisturiser with high UV protection?

Evening all,

I'm moving to Madrid next month and noticed that my favourite foundation (bare essentials) only offers factor 15 UV protection.

When I spoke to the woman at the cosmetics counter she advised using moisturiser underneath for protection.

Can anyone recommend a moisturiser with high UV protection?

Madrid is really hot in August and my skin is extremely pale - so the higher UV protection the better!

Nivea and L'Oreal both do SPF 50 and SPF30 facial creams, (Nivea is th better of the two). I find they are ok, my skin normally gets clogged easily and did get clogged with these but thats normal for me, otherwise they were fine. Any clogging and exfoliate daily after use, apply a tea-tree oil based ointment or witch stick which helps.

I also have tried Kiehl's which worked very well too, infact I prefer the Kiehl's (spf50) but just too expensive to buy every year.

Mac do a make up primer which is SPF50, have tested it and it does apply really well, trouble is you don't get alot for what you pay.

Shu Uemura have just bought out a new collection of SPF foundations which I tried and also liked, very expensive though.

I have just bought one from Ambre Soleil (sp!) and have yet to use it but just to say they do also have an SPF50 for the face.
  • Ultrasun Face 30 - anti ageing formula with spf 30, and a genuine once a day formula. I use it for all my microderm clients. They also do a full range of family/body/children/sports sunscreens in a variety of spfs.

  • If SPF needs to be applied every two hours are you going to take your makeup off, moisturise, and apply your bare minerals over the top? That could be a bit problematic.

You could use a high SPF in the morning before you apply your makeup, and just do foundation touch ups during the day but that might make you look a bit cakey.

Seeing as you already like minerals have you thought about a mineral sunscreen? Bare Minerals do make one but it's SPF30 and slightly tinted. However, Peter Thomas Roth does one in SPF45 and I believe it's translucent. These things have brushes included so you could just pop it in your bag for the day and sweep over as required to top up your protection.

I hope you have a wonderful time!

    franki,

Hadn't thought about that - I'd hate to be taking my make up off every couple of hours!

I'll check out the Bare Minerals sunscreen - thank you!

  • Ultrasun is a once a day formula - you put it on in the morning and forget about it - no need to reapply, honest!

I use clinque city block spf 40 under my bare minerals foundation - not a moisturiser though.

I like Boots Soltan facial sunscreen. Factor 30, it's the one application type. I use it year round as a moisturiser anyway, saves faffing with different products.

The most important thing is to take 1000 iu of vit d3 daily before you go.

Should have started 2 months ago, but better late than never.

Discard that if you are already tanned.

ETA, re read your OP, definately D3. Own daughter taking it in prep for Egypt. She too is pale skinned and works in artificial light for up to 15 hours daily so no natural protection in the sun.

Same rule applies with the bare minerals.
