Car Insurance Claim - Think Ive made a mistake

OK, went into the back of someone a while ago, it was just a nudge but enough to put a pea sized dent in his rear bumper so I cant blame him for claiming really.

The problem is that I think that I may have told a white lie on the form when applying for my insurance. I think I put that I was employed when I was actually unemployed.

I called them to log the accident and told them that it was my fault. They sent me a letter saying that I had to send them my license, policy document and mot certificate. I must have said on the phone when logging the accident that I was unemployed so they've said on the letter that I had said that I had been unemployed for some time and could I please provide a letter explaining when I was last in paid employment and why I failed to disclose the correct information when incepting (?) my policy.

I feel that Im somewhat in trouble here as I cant see them paying out now.

What would you do in my situation? Bearing in mind that I would like this guys car fixed and for my insurance to pay for it and that I dont have money to pay for it myself.

Cheers

Danny

All you can do is comply with their request and send them the documents requested and give an explanation.

The guys car will be paid for by your insurer, whatever they decide regarding your misinformation, and as you have no money, there is not a lot they can do to make you pay them back in the worst case scenario and they decide your policy is invalid.

no idea on the value of the claim, it was a mid range mercedes though, maybe 5 years old, it was a tiny dent in his rear bumper. While he said it would cost around a grand to fix, Im doubting it would cost half of that really.

is that definite then, that my insurance will pay to get his car fixed? I feel really bad for the guy as I wouldnt like it if it was me someone bumped into and their insurance wouldnt pay to get my car fixed as they told a white lie when filling in their form. He's tried to call me twice today and I havent answered as I wanted to get an idea of what the likely senario would be first.

a grand to fix a bump in a bumper may be correct you know - my work van had a bump in it and it cost between £700 and £900 to repair as panel had to beaten out, then the damaged area resprayed.

As posted, your insurer will deal with the third party claim, (if you are found liable for the damage).

You shouldn't discuss the matter with the third party. If he rings, give him your insurance details (ask for his) and ask him to deal with the insurer.

If he persists, politely say you cannot discuss the matter, and he should contact his insurer.
