Hi all ;)

I need to relay all my grass as it's died in a lot of places, so intending to to clear the soil then re sow grass.

When is the best time for me to plant grass seeds?
It's been a long time since I have! :o

Also, how long should I be waiting to expect them to grow??

Thanks

As long as it's not winter, time of year isn't a big issue. Moisture & reasonable warmth are the requirements.

Should start to see growth in about a week.

Don't make the same mistake that we did! To cover bare patches, we used 'fast growing' grass seed. Absolutely delighted that it covered the patches so quickly. Then realised that it always grew fast! So now have 75% normal growing grass on our lawn and 25% that grows very quickly!

Ten days to two weeks to see the first green haze appear. Make sure you dig the patch your replanting, rake it over, water it well and then seed. The put a cm or so of fine soil/compost on top and stamp it down (or pat it all down with the flat of the rake head). Keep moist! (the soil, not you)
If you would be wealthy, think of saving as well as getting.

Thank you for all your kind replies :)

I will buy some grass seeds this week, if I have managed to get all the old dead grass out by then :)

    Thank you all :D

If you haven't yet bought that grass.., if you don't want those odd spiky strands that the mower misses, get a seed without ryegrass. (It'll say on the box)
I've always found that the lightest of scattering of soil after sowing the seed helps to keep the seed moist, and if you can press it down by walking over it, it helps to prevent the seed being washed into clumps if it rains or is watered.

Has anyone tried Canada Green grass seed? We need something that will grow in wet conditions as there is an underground stream somewhere under our lawn and if it rains a lot it gets very boggy.
