EON Have signed us up?
Hi, Long time reader here.
Recently we have been recieving phone calls from EON.
They asked for my mum , and she said that they had to speak to her husband about it.
Now today, we recieved a letter from EON welcoming us.
It was addressed to my mum.
They have signed us up to a PrePayment (card or key) meter -we already have a metered electricity (not prepayment). It says that they are in the process of switching our supplier now.
My mum has no recollection of ever signing up to EON.
Also the phone number listed for her is not her number.
In addition it says "When you signed up, we agreed how often we'll send you statements" - which implies that they actually had contact with her.
Obviously my dad is going to phone EON tommorow, but I would like to know if this is a common problem with EON and any suggestions as to what may have happened?
Thank MSE'ers

Sounds like you have been switched, you'll still have a cooling off period (probably 14 days but best check) these callers from suppliers can be pretty crafty, they will have probably said something along the lines of "I'll send you something in the post for you to take a look at" and just switched her..
Do a comparison on any one of the comparison services in the bar above to see who is actually the cheapest on prepay.. if its E-on then let it go, in the (likely) event its another supplier then make use of the cooling off period and cancel it.Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -
Hi A33A,
I’m sorry to hear that your mothers’ supplies are being transferred to E.ON without her knowledge/agreement.
This would be known as an erroneous transfer, this would suggest that someone has signed up to E.ON but when processing the transfer the incorrect supply has been quoted.
This could be the result of an address mismatch or a typo when the supply numbers have been entered into the quote facility.
The good news is that if this was less than 14 days ago the transfer can be cancelled and nothing will change.
If for any reason this exceeds 14 days, a dispute can be raised and the supplies will be transferred back to the preferred supplier. During this time your mum will not be billed by E.ON but will continue to be billed by that preferred supplier.
