hallo everyone, i bought a 2002 vw bora tdi, s, and am surprised, at the lack of any cupholders, at all in the car, has anyone else ever owned, a similar car, without cup holders as well, for drinks, coffee, and what did you buy, as an alternative. I went on ebay, they have lots, but i just cant seem to find something suitable. Also, on the dashboard, i have a some kind of an empty slot, were am hoping, i could put a cup holder, which is why, am hoping to hear, from someone, who has owned, or owns, a similar vehicle. Thanks.

I know on the Skoda Fabia (same company as VW and based on the Polo which has alot in common with the Bora I believe) you can buy a cup holder for the dash that fits in a blank slot by the stereo which costs about £40. It only came as standard on the Elegance trim level but some people buy them to fit them to other trim cars. I suspect the same is possible for yours and the answer is already out there on VW forums. There's other little useful bits you can get for the Fabia which are only on the Elegance trim level like an under radio storage drawer (again this is about £40 so not cheap for a bit of plastic), under seat drawers (cost under £10). You can also get sunglasses holders that replace the grab handles (£10 off ebay) http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-MK4-GOLF-JETTA-BORA-GTI-POLO-SUNGLASS-HOLDER-BEIGE-/190419303910?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2c55dffde6

Seems I was wrong and the Bora has more in common with the Golf than Polo http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Group_A_platform#A4

These forums seem quite active http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/16.aspx they often come up on google when I search for bits and bobs. http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=115330 seems relevant.

When this site works http://www.vagcat.com/ (doesn't at the moment) it is very useful for finding part numbers that may fit. Find out from forums if they will fit, don't ask a VW dealer as unless they know their stuff (unlikely) they will probably tell you the parts won't fit if they weren't supplied with the car.

Do you have an empty DIN slot(standard size for stereos etc on consoles). If so something like this should fit.

I thought the cup holders were in the slot abouve the radio like they are in the Golf's? A long thin bit of trim that you push andthe cup holder pops out...

This made me laugh after reading the thread. Must be an age thing, cup holders don't even enter my head when talking cars.

Yes thats hwere it should be. Maybe the cupholder has been removed cos it broke? I thought it was standard fit on all Golf/Bora's.
