Family Railcard - age restrictions

I have just bought a new F&F railcard and will be travelling as a family in October. My son who is curently 15 will turn 16 in September and a little bird told me that he can still travel as a child using the railcard provided he was under 16 at the time it was bought. Could anyone verify or deny this before I go booking 2 adults/2 kids only to be charged a fortune on the day because I should have bought him an adult ticket?

(We do also have another child so the travelling with at least one child in the party will be convered either way)
