-THIS IS LONG, THANKYOU IF YOU HAVE THE PATIENCE TO BEAR WITH IT-
Hello,
A little off topic here however i reckon theres a chance that some people here were perhaps in a similar situation and could maybe offer me advice and ideas?!
-I have just Graduated this summer, and the plan has always been to work at home in what ever job i could find-(being out in the country theres limited options and i am working as a waiter)-untill January/Febuary and then go Travelling for 6-7months-(2months in total of travelling Thailand, somewhere in South America, perhaps North America & 5months in Oz, 4months of that hopefully working)-and then Returning in August to hopefully a place on a Graduate scheme-"I am detrmined to do a grad scheme".
-However i really can not stand working at home untill then, its not possibile however if i move out anywhere where ill be happier i will not be able to afford to go anytime soon and i do not want to put my travels off as i find 6-7months not really enough to travel anyway and i want to be back for a grad scheme with most starting end of August/early September-(NEED to make money and get started in a career)!!
-What i am looking for advice in is....what other options are there, where i can work somewhere, make good money, and expenses(rent etc) are low. I dont mind hard work....its just my work is hellish, my home is hellish....everything is hellish right now! -untill i go in January/Febuary??
-Also how much do you think i will need for my description of my trip adove. I have budgeted that i will need say a £1000 for the RTW ticket, and £2000 to go with(My thinking is £1000 for each month i am travelling and try and brak even in Oz with work). I dont have any more money right now and with £1000 in CC i want paid off before i go, its unlikely i will raise any more than that in my current "hellish" situation of living/working at home.
-Also, i am curious if anyone knows much about the grad scheme process. I know where to look for grad schemes, and that most open entry for 2007 in the next few months...however what with my 2:2(Marketing Mngt with tourism), im worried its going to be difficult enough getting interviews etc, nevermind getting them all before i go in Jan/Feb and getting accepted on one before i go. I am very determined to go a grad scheme...i have looked into it and know its difficult with my lack of experience and a 2:2 but i am going to apply to many anyway-(i do not care where i work and even what i do as i have no clue still at all, so that may work in my benefit as i am willing and plan on applying to many grad schemes). Any feedback on this?
-Also, anyadvice/tips or links on how to plan my travels(especially finding a job in Oz) would be appreciated and some advice on how to plan my assault on hunting for a grad scheme for next year would also be fantastic.
Thanks very much.
PS: High five for those who managed to read all this :-)

Phew well thats alot to take in!! I dont really know what to advise re work and money etc, but I had a thought about your travelling. Have you thought of doing something like this . You can travel, earn money and have fun doing it! My hubby did this in his early 20's and says that it was one of the best times he's ever had (he's now 34).
Sorry I cant help much, but good luck with whatever you decide to do xxSam0 -
going back home after uni can be a nightmare..... but the saving on rent can be a lifesaver. if there's anyway you can address what's making the situation hellish, then that would be a good first avenue.
i went home after graduating and wanted to save to go travelling - ended up working 7 days a week and hating life - but having a really bright light at the end of the tunnel can make things bearable as it's really only short term.
not sure about places to go and live and make lots of money while renting..... someone else may help on that front.
if you're planning on travelling, then you can really go with as much money as you can find. in south america it's possible to live off $10/$15 a day for everything, but you don't end up staying in the nicest places! it's always best to have a bit of a cushion should you need money (e.g. ending up in hospital over there - trust me, not fun!).
as far as jobs go, it may be best to do a blanket application - if it's going to be tough to get an interview, you might as well send off as many applications as you can (although a lot have horrible online application forms so it's not a pleasant job!). https://www.milkround.com is the most well known site for graduate recruitment schemes, but there are also places like https://www.just4graduates.net and https://www.prospects.ac.uk that advertise graduate training schemes.
HTH - although i think someone else may have more specific advice - i'd just say be really really sure that the nightmare situation you're in isn't something you could just tolerate for a few months.:happyhear0 -
Thanks melancholly...some good advice here...i had never even came across milkround before so thats good and it was good to hear hope little you think it is to live off in South America. I think it may be bearable.....well i hope, but if theres something else i can do untill then that i can earn just as much well i want to know about it.
...Also, in regards to Camp America....i have did it before, loved it. I am looking to go to other places(Oz, Asia....) for a longer spell than that of doing Camp America.
Please keep the advice coming...its real appreciated.
