Which printer is the most cost effective?

I own a Lexmark X4650 printer... great printer but hideously expensive on the cost of replacement ink cartridges... I've even tried refilling the refillable carts but they never work properly.
So can anyone recommend a reasonable price printer (sub £100) that is cheap to run on ink. :)

Depends what you want to do. I have a cheap mono printer from brother something like 9000 pages to a cartridge 50 quid a cartridge. So if its just black and whites all you need mono is the way to go.

Lexmark are extremely cheap purely because the ink is a rip off thats how they make their money. So yeah dump it.

Try a canon or brother printer if you need colour.

I was looking at the Canon Pixma MP270 but it seems the ink is pricey for that one too... I need a printer that either has cheap carts or takes refills without all the aggro of the Lexmark...
I have heard Epson printers are supposed to be good but know nothing about them. :o

Epson are also good. I use compatible cartridges, which I'm sure some will say are not as good however I've never had any problems with them.

i think you may be working backwards, i would head to staples, tesco, rymans etc find out what the cheapest cartridges and then get a compatible printer, if its old enough you might be able to find it cheap.... if your lucky find a place thats getting rid of their older cartridges, like wilko's, for 10p a cartridge, stock up, then buy a printer, job done :D

Brother Inkjet, no problems getting cheap compatible cartridges that work for £2.00 each delivered, no chip in cartridges, I have 3 of them, all working fine.:)
